Robin Kay, President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada and Director of LG Fashion Week in Toronto, ambitiously spearheaded the first global Canadian fashion platform to exhibit both the talent of Canadian fashion designers and international designers.

Forging into the world of fashion twenty-five years ago, Ms. Kay began Robin Kay Clothing Co. in 1976, a successful high-end retail and wholesale company. Over a period of twenty-five years Ms. Kay opened a total of eighteen stores both retailing and wholesaling her designs to over 600 accounts throughout the United States. In Ms. Kay’s career as a knitwear designer she conquered countless new fashion territory and spawned a vast and innovative array of products for her stores, including the operation of the largest retail chain of environmentally correct stores in North America, far ahead of the now popular movement.

Having achieved phenomenal success with her designs and retail business Ms. Kay began looking for new challenges. She had personally experienced the difficulties of trying to make it as a designer in Canada and recognized the need for an organization with the sole purpose of promoting and mobilizing Canadian fashion on an international stage. In 1999 Ms. Kay decided that it was time to make that change, she divested her chain of stores and joined the Fashion Design Council of Canada.

Ms. Kay has since devoted herself to distinctly branding the fashion industry in Canada within the international design community.

The FDCC has built an international fashion event that has become the calling card for designers, media, sponsors, and industry to gather collectively within the international fashion calendar to attend the season’s collections.

As an international ambassador for Canada’s fashion industry, Ms. Robin Kay leads the FDCC in the organization of the bi-annual event in Toronto that acts as the catalyst in the creation of a cohesive and commercially viable industry. The Fashion Design Council of Canada celebrated their ten year anniversary with the twentieth edition of Fashion Week in Toronto, March 2009.
