Meaningful Motors What Your Car and Colour Say about You

BY AMANDA BLOYE, FW Writer

There is no greater feeling than driving on an
open highway with the music blaring in the car
you love. Whether it’s your first car or your
fifth, the connection between an individual and
their vehicle is unlike any other. From a luxury
SUV to a hybrid sedan, your chic road style says
something great about the person behind the car.

Ultimate Luxury
Individuals owning cars in this category know
what they want and stop at nothing to get it.
Price no longer becomes a factor in the decisionmaking
process and, as a result, individuals
owning these cars desire and acquire the best of
the best. Models falling into this category consist
mainly of European elegance and can include
Bentley, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche, and
Rolls Royce.

German Glamour
The popularity of cars in this class has rolled over
Canada’s urban centres like a tidal wave of
style and class. Individuals owning these vehicles
are trend savvy and know the staying power of
a brand or look when they see it. Automobiles
in this category include, but are not limited to,
Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Homegrown
Individuals owning automobiles in this category
are proud to be Canadian. Where price may
not be a factor, they’re more likely to value the
domestic nature of the brand than where the
car might have come from. With their simple
elegance and clever style, homegrown individuals
would rather spend a cozy night in by the fire
than deal with the hectic world of Toronto’s
nightlife. Brands in this category include
Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC and Jeep.

Oriental Originality
People who own cars in this class are appreciative
of technological ingenuity. These cars offer
simple style and are both cost and fuel-efficient.
These individuals are intellectual thrill seekers
who enjoy learning and experiencing something
new. Vehicles in this category are Acura, Honda,
Hyundai, Subaru, Toyota and Kia.
Hybrids
It goes without saying that individuals who own
hybrids are environmentally aware.
They love spending time outdoors and
are on a mission to shrink their ecological
footprint. Hybrids have made huge
advances in the auto world without
sacrificing luxury, cost or style. While almost
every vehicle company has created a hybrid
model, the Toyota Prius, with its celeb
support, has made waves throughout Canada.

Perhaps equally important to the brand of
car chosen is the car’s colour. Nothing makes a
greater statement about the individual or the ride
than the cherry red, crisp white or deep ebony of
the exterior. According to research conducted
in Great Britain, the colour of your set of wheels
says a lot about who you, the driver, are. The
following is a list of just what your car is saying
about you, courtesy of AOL Money and Finance
(www.money.aol.com):
• Black cars denote an aggressive personality or
someone who’s an outsider or rebel.
• Silver cars indicate someone who’s cool, calm
and slightly aloof.
• Green cars are often chosen by people with
hysterical tendencies.
• Yellow cars signify someone who is idealistic
and novelty loving.
• Blue cars are chosen by the more introspective,
reflective and cautious driver.
• Gray cars represent those who are calm, sober
and dedicated to their work.
• Red cars denote those who are full of zest,
energy and drive and who think, move and talk
quickly.
• Pink cars are chosen by gentle, loving and
affectionate drivers.
• White cars represent status-seeking extrovert
drivers.
• Cream cars are the least likely to be involved
in accidents and denote self-contained and
controlled owners.

More important than what your car colour
may be saying about you is what the colour of
your car is telling the insurance company. In
fact the answer is nothing. According to a 2005
article by the Chicago Sun-Times, the idea that
the colour of an automobile has an effect on your
insurance policy is an urban myth mistakenly
believed by 25 per cent of drivers.

Whatever your chosen brand or colour may
be, remember that it’s you who makes the car
and not the other way around. Don’t let your car
define your personality but infuse yourself and
your style into every vehicle you drive.
