Cosmetic Camp:Luscious looks for any Event

BY AMANDA BLOYE, FW Writer

When prepping for a night on the town or a
picnic date in the park, fewer staples are more
important than a fresh face or fabulous pout.
Here, Fashion Weekly has compiled two great
makeup trends to help you find the perfect look.

Eyes that Sparkle
One of this summer’s hottest trends for eyes is to
go bold with lashes and liner without looking like
it’s Halloween. Celebs who really work this look
are Lauren Conrad and Heidi Klum.

To get this look at home start with an eyelash
curler, black eye liner (which can be pencil or
liquid if you’re daring) and a great mascara to
add length and volume to your lashes. Next
apply liner to the insides of both the lower and
upper eyelids, taking the line as far into the
corners as you like. When doing so, always
remember to stick with what works for your eyes
and face shape.

Before applying any shadow or mascara be
sure to curl lashes. Then apply any shadow you
wish. If you’re going for a more neutral look
it’s important to stick to browns, light pinks
and light purples. For a more dramatic evening
look try smoked eyes using black and grey or,
depending on the outfit, try a dark brown or
mauve shadow.

To finish the look off, apply any mascara to
upper and lower lashes, one coat for day or two
for a more dramatic look. Add any bronzer or
blush to areas that see the sun for that great sunkissed
glow.

Retro Chic
If you’re feeling bold with your cosmetic skills
a great look to try is the old Hollywood/pin up
girl look worn by Christina Aguilera and Dita
Von Teese. The items needed to pull this off are
a great black liner (pencil will work but liquid is
preferred), false lashes, mascara, a light shadow
and a great red lipstick.

Apply any foundation or powder before
beginning the eye makeup application. Try
to keep face makeup to a minimum as pinups
generally have powder white skin with a hint of
blush or bronzer. Make sure to keep any blush
or bronzer light, close to your skin tone and on
areas the sun usually hits like the forehead, nose
and cheekbones.

When starting on the eyes begin by covering
lids with a light shadow, which can be matte or
shimmery. This shadow covers the entire lid and
is worked into the skin as much as possible. Next
comes the liner. Liquid liner can be a challenge
for first time users so it’s important to practice
this look before the big day (or night) out.

According to the article How to use
1950s pinup makeup tips, “[the eyeliner
should] begin above and beyond the outer
corner of the eye. The line should be thick,
beginning on the lashes themselves and
working up.” Liner should also be applied
to lower lids, keeping in mind to “make the
line thicker on the outer corner and gradually
thinning to the inner corner.”

This step is followed by applying a full set of
false lashes to the upper lids and is finished
with one or two coats of lengthening mascara.
Finally, to finish this look, cover lips in a bright
red lipstick or gloss for a kissable look to last all
night.

The important thing to remember when
going for a dramatic eye or trying a bold lipstick
is to keep all other makeup soft and bordering
on neutral. Don’t be afraid to try out new looks
because the perfect one for you may just be a
brush stroke away.
