Fusion: Catwalk Concert To Combat Cancer

By: Lora Maghanoy, FW Editor

Fashion and music often go hand-in-hand.
So, it’s no surprise that the two were paired up
once again right here in our city – but this time
to fight a worthy cause.

Held at the Annex Wreckroom, FUSION:
The Catwalk Concert to Combat Cancer
offered up an enthusiastic display of music and
fashion. The event, which featured celebrity
host (and former MuchMusic VJ) Steve
Anthony, boasted five upcoming designers
and three rock bands, including World’s End
Clothing by Hayley Melia (all the way from
Manchester, England), Tarz Industrial, Flors
Fashion, Sins Fashion and Morph Clothing.
The designs all veered towards a gothic, rock
and roll theme, complete with both casual
pieces (embellished with devil horns and
crosses) and more dressier pieces (described as
clubwear)- think: high hemlines, low necklines
and brighter than bright shades. The designs
featured plenty of red tartan and plenty of
knee-high platform boots. The energy of all 5
collections was very Alexander McQueen-like
Goth, but for a younger demographic.

Perhaps more notable of the night was the
entertainment provided by the 3 bands Nathan
Down, 2nd Pass and Written in Red. All three
rock bands had different sounds and worked
the excited crowd. A special mention goes
to Nathan Down (who kicked off the night’s
musical festivities) and his rocked out cover of
Ginuwine’s hit “Pony”- yeah, THAT song.

Overall, the night proved to be successful,
showcasing an interesting mix from both
worlds and there is no doubt that the proceeds,
which all went to the Canadian Cancer Society
will be put to excellent use.
