Toronto’s Best Patios
BY LORA MAGHANOY, FW Editor
After what seemed like a torturous winter of near-record snowfall, Torontonians are embracing the warm weather and heading outside! This summer, dining and drinking al fresco has never seemed more appealing! FW breaks down some of our favourites.
Ultra Supper Club
314 Queen St. West
Hidden behind large wooden doors and often
accompanied by the intense scent of the Lush
soap store beneath it, lies one of Toronto’s best
spots to revel in the summer heat and enjoy a
cocktail (or several). Often reminiscent of South
Beach, Ultra has quickly become one of the
hottest spots along Queen West.
Black Bull Hotel & Tavern
298 Queen St. West
Never one to turn down a night at a nice pub,
this spot proves to boast something that the
others I’ve frequented don’t – a perfect patio
along the city’s hottest streets. Perfect for people
watching and pint-sipping, the Black Bull is
definitely worth a visit.
Czehoski
678 Queen St. West
Despite the fact that it only seats about 32 (so get
there early!), Czehoski offers a rustic charm that
is undeniable. Considered a small ‘urban oasis,’
the patio boasts elegant lighting and the perfect
spot to indulge in casual eats and a refreshing
cocktail.
The Central
603 Markham St.
Situated in the heart of the Mirvish Village, The
Central offers two patios – a street-level area
and a 2nd floor space. Adorned with Christmas
lights and everyday patio furniture, it may not be
the most aesthetically pleasing, but the spot is so
charming (and the staff very friendly) that in the
end, it doesn’t even matter. A bonus? They have
become a common venue for local musicians to
play live and showcase their talent.
Panorama
55 Bloor St. West
Perhaps one of the most romantic spots on our
list, the trek to this high-rise location is worth the
effort. But take a cue from me: go on a nice day.
After a cramped elevator ride to the 51st floor, we
were unfortunately greeted by a heavy sheet of
clouds. But despite that, the potential was clearly
visible. With two outdoor terraces, Panorama
gives you the best view of the city below– and a
pretty great selection of cocktails.
The Beaconsfield
1154 Queen St. West
A personal favourite of mine, the Beaconsfield
offers a quaint patio which conveniently faces the
popular Drake Hotel. Like the indoor space, it
tends to fill up quickly with pre-and post -Drake
revelers, so get there early to snag a seat. Great
music, great food and drinks, and the staff is very
friendly… and so hip, it hurts.
