Agyness Deyn the story of a fashion icon
By: Myriam Bouchenafa FW Writer.
I met Henry in a punk squat in Paris and he invited me to his birthday party. And I turned up to his birthday party and didn’t know who he was and I’m like ’this is such an amazing party.’ when I got there I had friends from London and I’m going ‘He’s so nice’ and they were like ‘You know he designs for Dior.’ And I’m like ‘Really! That’s great.

Agyness Deyn, born Laura Hollin in Manchester, often referred to as Aggy, is the English super model.
At just 16 years old, she moved to London, working in a fast-foodrestaurant during the day and a bar at night but admits: “It didn’t quite work.”
She was then spotted while shopping with fashion designer Henry Holland. “I got spotted in
London on the street. Me and Henry were on Kentish Town Road. And I got approached so I was like, why not and then when I started doing it, I loved it so much! I thought this is what I really want to do. I really want to concentrate on doing this really well.”
In 2007, she was featured on the cover of Vogue USA, followed by almost every other international publication.
Deyn has appeared in advertisements for Anna Sui, Blugirl by Blumarine, Burberry, Cacharel, Gianfranco Ferré, Moussy, Maison Gilfy, Shiseido, Giorgio Armani, Mulberry, Paul Smith, Reebok and Vivienne Westwood. After Kate Moss she is the new face of Burberry, Jean-Paul Gauthier’s Madame Fragrance, Shiseido and friend Henry Holland’s Label House of Holland.

In 2008, ID magazine devoted the May issue to her. With articles written by her and about her. Deyn was then the guest editor, conducting interviews with big fashion personality such as Vivienne Westwood. In 2009 it was reported that Deyn quit modeling to concentrate on an acting career. She was voted one of the top 30 top model of the 2000’s by Vogue Paris.
Agyness and fashion designer & best friend Henry Holland
Agyness Deyn isn’t just a super model, she is a super woman (even when she fell down the runway TWICE during Naomi Campbell Fashion for the Haiti Relief Benefit Show, she did it with grace (see on your right), who sings, acts, and has become the fashion Icon. She has brought back a very edgy rock’n’roll style. But Deyn isn’t going to stop inspiring us. When asked if she was thinking of maybe becoming a designer herself she said: “I love clothes. I love like buying vintage stuff… putting stuff together. Maybe down the line I’d love to do some designing or styling. But yes there’s going to be projects in the future with me and Henry coming up.”
I, for one, can’t wait to see that happening…
