Fashion Cares 2008

Fashion Cares, the annual gala in support
of the Aids Committee of Toronto whose goal
of building awareness of HIV/AIDS and raising
funds for ACT, took place November 1st. This
year marked the 21st anniversary of the gala,
and because of its close proximity to Halloween,
the event went by the spooky theme of “Fashion
sCares” and inspired many Halloween-themed
couture outfits.

Before the show started for the evening,
cocktails and dinner were served and there was,
of course, the exciting arrival of all the stars to
the red carpet. Headliners for the event included
Katy Perry, Kreesha Turner, and the infamous

Dame Shirley Basset. All three ladies glammed up
the red carpet alongside names like David Furnish
and Yasmine Warsame. All celebrities were in
attendance to support the cause and help to make
the night entertaining and unforgettable.

After the red carpet I took a tour of the
makeup and hair studio backstage and tried my
hardest not to drool all over the hundreds of MAC
cosmetics products that lined the tables. Following
the tour I headed over to the cocktail lounge, which
was filled with fun Halloween-inspired activities
including the scary photo booth and trick-or-treat
corner. Here, guests could purchase bags for $25,
$50, or $100 in hopes of scoring big gift cards or
even all-inclusive trips.

The show itself was incredible. Katy Perry
had an outstanding performance and even took
the time for pictures with media and fans. The
performances were interspersed with elaborate
Hitchcock themed dance routines and runway
action.

Fashion sCares certainly delivered and lived up
to all the hype surrounding it- a great party with
great clothes that supports a very deserving charity
is of course, something that is always in style.
