How to Dress For Your Body Type – Winter Jackets

How to Dress For Your Body Type – Winter Jackets

January 2014

When dressing yourself, it is important to make choices that embrace your body and its shape.  Sometimes however, finding clothing that best accentuate the shape of your body can be challenging, especially when you aren’t sure what to look for.  The first step to take is to determine what shape your body has.  We are all unique, of course, but our unique shapes can all fall under broader categories. Once you’ve narrowed down your body shape, the rest will come easily.

Pear Shape

If you have a pear shaped body, your lower body is wider than your upper body.  In other words, your hips are wider than your shoulders.  With a pear shaped body, you should focus on accentuating your waist.  You can easily emphasize your waist by wearing a jacket that is fitted at the waist and flared below it.

Rectangle Shape

Women who have rectangular shaped body are usually on the slim side and have hips, waists and shoulders of almost the same widths.  With this boyish look, you should dress to emphasize your legs and arms while creating curves.  This might seem like a difficult thing to do while shopping for a winter jacket, but it is much simpler than it seems. The best winter jacket for you would be one that is well-tailored and belted.  This helps to create shape and curves.

Apple Shape

Having an apple shape body means carrying most of your weight above the hips, meaning you need to show off your legs, as they are your best asset!  You may feel as though you have broader shoulders and a smaller torso than other body types.  Showing off your legs while shopping for the perfect winter jacket can be difficult, nonetheless, it is not impossible.  For apple shaped women, jackets that have A-line silhouettes and that are cut slightly under the hip are perfect.

Inverted Triangle Shape

A woman who has an inverted triangle shaped body is bigger in the chest area and has broad shoulders compared to her hips and waist.  When dressing for this body type, you should try to find clothing that accentuates your lower body while softening the upper body.  As for winter jackets, one that is fitted  and hip length will great look for women of the inverted triangle shape.
